Energy Service Denmark (Energitjenesten)
Since 2005 Denmark has had an independent energy advice service run by citizens’ based organisations: "The Energy Service Denmark". Working from twelve local/regional offices the service is present and is able to run activities throughout Denmark. The aim is to promote behaviors and decisions that save energy and change energy use to renewable energy sources. Not only at home; but also at the workplace and wherever we use energy.
The work of The Energy Service Denmark is organised around four pillars and around specific campaigns. The four pillars are:

Green Diplomas
Green Diplomas is an activity to improve and increase energy and environmental certification of institutions, shops, and offices. The first diplomas were given to shops that receive diplomas as “green shops” if every year they improve within (at least) two environmental aspects of their business. The aspects are electricity consumption, water consumption, heat consumption, green purchases, green sales, waste, and transport.
The Structure of Energy Service Denmark
Most activities are carried out by the 12 local offices.
The national secretariat is responsible for management of national funds, website and other central activities.
Issue groups and other subgroups are working on a number of specific activities, from following EU policies to preparing new campaigns.
The supreme body of Energy Service Denmark is the steering committee with representatives of OVE and SEK (see below).
Energy Service Denmark is a project of OVE (The Danish Organisation for Sustainable Energy) and SEK (a network of local energy CBO's).
OVE is a national Danish NGO with 2200 members. It publishes a bi-monthly magazine, runs campaigns and projects, and is active on the political scene concerning Danish energy. Read more at www.ove.org
SEK is an association of local, membership-based energy- and environment organisations. It cooperates with OVE on the magazine and Energy Service Denmark. Read more at: www.ove.org.
Funding
In Denmark a levy is charged on electricity to use on energy efficiency activities. The Danish power distribution companies and the Danish Electricity Saving Trust are responsible for most of these activities; but with the parliamentary agreement of 29 March 2004 it was decided that the electricity utility companies should finance additional energy saving activities. Based on this decision the activities of The Energy Service Denmark have been supported since 2005.
In addition, Energy Service Denmark receives project funding for specific projects and campaigns.
